Annie Pootoogook: Portrait of an Artist is an exploration into the life of prolific Inuk artist Annie Pootoogook. Presented in Inuktitut (with English surtitles), the production will be performed by Inuk actress Miali Buscemi and live-scored by Juno Award winning performer Tiffany Ayalik. A film animator will transform Annie’s still art into moving animation, to enable the character of Annie to physically enter the world of her art and exist within it.

This multi-media theatre project is Human Cargo’s second collaboration with Inuit theatre artists and will be developed in Cape Dorset, Ottawa and Toronto between 2018-2021. Its premiere is planned for 2022. This haunting, poignant production will be an important dialogue with Canadian audiences about the preciousness of life, the power of art, and the unbridled endurance of one of Canada’s most influential artists.
